Motivation and How to Get It!

There can be many motivations in our lives. We can be inspired because we like doing something, because we want the outcome it will provide, or because we do not want the outcome not doing something will provide.

There can be many reasons for a lack of motivation.

But how do we develop this driving force when it doesn’t seem to be happening naturally?

You can use Self Motivation Boosters. Self Motivation Boosters.

What Do You Want?

Motivation Tip #1: Write it Down

One way is to write down the desired outcome. Then down one side of a page, write what you need to do to realize this outcome. Down the other side of the page, write what will happen if you don’t do each of these things.

Study your list, and decide if the outcome is worth what you will have to do to achieve it.

As well as doing whatever it takes to achieve your goal, you also need to believe it if you are going to achieve it.

Look and see if there is any other way you can achieve your goal.

Is what you have written down the only way?

If there is another way, follow the same procedure for that, and then look at both ways and decide which is the best option for you at this time.

By focusing on the outcome, you will find yourself more motivated than if you focus on each smaller task, especially if some of them you really would rather not have to do!

Always look ahead to the final goal. Feel it as if you have already achieved it. This will help you keep going through the various steps that you need to take to get there.

For example: If you are going on a trip to Italy, you don’t spend hours focusing on having to wait in various airports, for taxis, the hassle of packing and unpacking etc. Instead you focus on the ultimate goal – the joy you will feel enjoying Italy itself.

Motivation Tip #2: Create a Vision Board

Another way is to create a vision board. This is a picture of what you want. It is a picture of your outcome. This is also sometimes called a Treasure Map or a Collage.

It may be what you want in your entire life, as you see it now, or it may be a picture of what you want in just one specific area of your life.

Cut out pictures from magazines or download them from free clipart sites on the Internet. Paste all your pictures, either electronically or physically, onto a page. Add words if you like. Keep adding till the vision board gives a good representation of what you want.

Put is somewhere you will see it every day.

Study it daily. Again, get your feeling involved. Don’t just look at it – feel how it will feel to have these things in your life. You will find that this naturally increases your motivation.

You will also see that it activates you “Reticular Activating System” (RAS) which means that you see opportunities to move closer to your goal that you otherwise might not have noticed.

An example of your RAS being activated is this: Imagine you have just decided you can at last afford that bright red sports car you have been longing for. You go to the dealer, and you pick out the exact one you want, and order it. It will take a month to come. During that month, as you go around town, what do you think you will notice?

Yes, red sports cars. They will be everywhere. In parking lots. Zooming along the roads. In dealers showrooms. You will see pictures of them in papers and magazines, and you will see them on just about every television program you watch.

What has happened? Is there suddenly a glut on red sports cars? No, there are exactly the same number as before, but now your RAS is activated in that direction and you NOTICE every red sports car that comes within sight.
The same happens with the items you put on your Vision Board.

When they appear, you will now notice very much more often than you used to. So that means you’ll notice opportunities you might otherwise have missed to take you closer to your goals.

Check it. Depending upon the time frame for your vision board – do you expect to achieve everything within weeks, or is it a 5 year plan – check it out carefully, after things have had a chance to start happening. Mark down the things that you have achieved, and those you feel are now on their way to you.

You’ll be amazed at how well it works.

Motivation Tip #3: Visualization

Visualization also helps. Close your eyes and picture your desired outcome. Picture it in detail. The more detail the better.

Spend a few minutes every day visualizing this same outcome. This works because your subconscious cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is intensely imagined.

It is programmed by repetition, continued over a period of time. Once your subconscious believes that your outcome is real, it directs your behavior to achieve what it already sees as true.

Motivation Tip #4: “Read” Your Handwriting

Have you ever heard the saying “Change your Handwriting, Change your Life”? It’s true.

Your writing is unique to you, your personality, your moods, how motivated you are.

When you are feeling more motivated, it shows in your writing. When you are feeling less, that shows too.

And just as how you are feeling shows in your writing, it works the other way around. If you write with motivation strokes to show that you are aiming for your goals, you will find, after you have been doing it for a while, that you feel more like doing what is necessary to achieve them.

Try some of the suggestions above. Keep track of what you achieve, since success spurs you on to more success.
