You like the idea of being assertive, but you’re not doing it. Why? There can be a variety of reasons for not being assertive. Here are some for you to consider. Choose those which most closely apply to you. - Not wanting to seem aggressive or pushy - Wanting people to like you - Feeling shy and uncomfortable - Not being sure of the “etiquette” in this situation and not wanting to tread on anyone’s toes - Worried about what people will think of you - Not wanting to hurt anyone’s feelings - Needing this person on your side, and willing to give in to get that - Not sure how to phrase your request or statement - Not wanting to create hostility or dislike - Not wanting to cause a problem - Wanting to appear as one of the group, going along with what they do, like, believe - Knowing that your point of view is different and the others probably won’t understand where you are coming from - Not caring enough to bother Which of these is holding you back?
